Cooking involves heat, sharp tools and raw ingredients. Please read this before you cook.
Food safety
- Times and temperatures in recipes are guides. Use a food thermometer. The USDA recommends cooking ground meat and pork sausage to 160°F (71°C), whole poultry and ground poultry to 165°F (74°C), and whole cuts of beef, pork and fish to 145°F (63°C) with a rest.
- Eggs cooked soft, runny or lightly set, and any dish with raw or undercooked eggs, meat, fish or dairy, carry a higher risk of foodborne illness. Pregnant people, older adults, young children and anyone with a weakened immune system should cook these dishes through or skip them.
- Wash hands and surfaces, keep raw and cooked foods apart, chill leftovers within two hours, and use safe thawing methods.
- Hot oil, hot pans, boiling liquids and sharp knives cause burns and cuts. Never leave hot oil unattended.
