Easy

Thick Vanilla Milkshake

A spoon-standing shake made with just ice cream, milk and vanilla.

The short version. Blend three big scoops of vanilla ice cream with half a cup of cold milk and a splash of vanilla until just smooth. Use less milk for a thicker shake.
  • Prep 5 min
  • Makes 1 shake

Scaling is exact math. For a fraction of an egg, beat the egg and measure out that fraction.

Ingredients

Shake

  • 3 scoops vanilla ice cream (firm, straight from the freezer)
  • ½ cup cold milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla

Directions

  1. Add the milk and vanilla to the blender first, then the ice cream on top.
  2. Blend on low just until smooth, about 20 to 30 seconds. Over-blending warms the shake and thins it.
  3. Pour into a chilled glass. Top with whipped cream and a cherry if you like.

Tips

  • Chill the glass in the freezer for 10 minutes first. It keeps the shake thick longer.
  • For chocolate, add two tablespoons of chocolate syrup. For malted, add two tablespoons of malted milk powder.

Questions

My shake is too thin. How do I fix it?

Blend in another scoop of ice cream. Next time start with less milk and add it a splash at a time.
